LinkedIn: Best Practices for 2025

Samantha Robinson

LinkedIn has changed over the past couple of years and is now much more than just a platform for job seekers, it's a space to grow your professional network, personal brand, share your expertise, and build your business. We even have LinkedInfluencers!

Here are some essential tips to help you get the most out of LinkedIn for you and your business...

Start by optimising your profile. Think of it as your online business card. Use a professional photo with a clear photo of your face (think...professional rather than a selfie or a repurposed holiday photo!). I actually booked a photoshoot with a wonderful photographer (Lucy - let me know if you want her details!) and having a bank of professional photos has come in handy SO MANY TIMES.

While you're at it, take the time to create a cover photo, craft a headline that goes beyond your job title to explain how you add value, and write a summary that tells your story; what you're passionate about and WHO you’re for. Canva is great for creating cover photo's and there are loads of examples you can pull from for inspiration.

Share valuable content consistently. Consistent means different things to different people. For some, it's every day, for some it's once a week. If you're new to the platform and reasonably committed to it, aim to post 1-3 times a week, mixing up formats like text posts, articles, and videos.

There is a brand new video area on the platform now, which tells us they’re prioritising that as a medium so lean into it. Just be sure to add captions, we're all about accessibility for 2025.

When it come's to WHAT to post, it all comes down to your audience. Provide insights that matter to your audience, whether it’s industry tips, trends, or personal reflections.

My best posts are actually off the cuff, in the moment posts rather than planned ones if I'm honest. I think perhaps because the passion about what I want to say shines through more in the moment? But overall, authenticity is key, so be yourself and share both wins and challenges.

Engage with others. LinkedIn is a conversational space, not just a content or brain dump.

Comment thoughtfully on posts in your feed, join discussions in relevant groups, and send personalised messages when connecting with new people. Meaningful interactions go a long way in building relationships. DON’T spam people with comments all about you, connect and comment authentically.

Leverage LinkedIn’s features like polls and articles to keep your content fresh and interactive.

Lastly, avoid hard selling – focus on value.
